The end of a myth of German industrial history: 2002 the steelwork ‘Maxhütte’ in the Upper Palatine town of Sulzbach-Rosenberg is finally closing down. What implications has this for a region which, until now, was living from coal and steel? Five years after the closure we are meeting the five workers for the second time. In 1994 we accompanied them with a camera at the furnace of the ‘Maxhütte’. Now we confront them with their former statements. The central question for the people in the economically underdeveloped region: How do they live on after the end of the steelworks?
