The commission: a new altarpiece for the church of the village of 400 souls, Gelliehausen, near Göttingen. The idea of artist Johannes Heisig: the twelve apostle are portrayed by real villagers. Commotion in the village: whose portrait is seen, and why? And why not one of the others? The portraits of the apostles present an overview of a tension charged microcosm.
