Das Dorf und der Einsiedler – The village and the recluse

Das Dorf und der Einsiedler – The village and the recluse (2003 / Bayrischer Rundfunk / 75 Min.)

St. Englmar in the Bavarian Forest is named after a hermit. Every year at the ‘Englmarisuchen’ respect is paid to the blessed Englmar. Today – 900 years later - there is a new recluse. Toni is living a completely self-sustained life in a cabin in the forest above the village. Cohabiting with the “new recluse” is not easy for the villagers. At times, having taken a vow of silence, he is not talking. And his luxury-free and consumption-free existence serves as a reproof to the villagers to consider the value of their own lives.
