First part (Second part in 1995) of a long-term documentary about a worker in the copper ore region of Mansfelder Land. In 1990 Fritz Franz was standing at the furnace in the August-Bebel-Iron-Works; one year later, exactly at the German reunification, he is unemployed. Later he is disassembling his own iron-works within a job creation scheme. His life is defined by work. “Without work there is no happiness”, he says. The biography of an East-German industrial worker after the political turn-around, with all its painful and happy experiences within the new system.
