‘Zur Goldenen Freiheit – ‘To Golden Freedom’ is the name of a pub opposite the prison at Berlin-Tegel. Inside the pub the ‘insiders’ (the prisoners on furlough) encounter the ‘outsiders’ (visitors, relatives, lawyers). Pub owner Maria is treating her clientele with great understanding. Especially close to her heart are the women who are dating ‘jailbirds’. The film accompanies two such people who are searching for love and life in this place.
